About
Teaching the wisdom of the world, carefully.
Teach Wisdom Traditions is the education imprint of Mind Heart Lens LLC, an educational publisher based in Austin, Texas.
We publish curriculum, teacher professional development, and classroom workbooks for schools and families, with a focus on two things: the history of the world’s contemplative traditions, and the practical skills of attention and self-regulation that those traditions spent centuries refining.
Our mission is to teach wisdom traditions to kids and teens, and to give the adults who teach them research-grounded tools for their own well-being and for calm, focused classrooms.
Our approach
- About, not as. We teach about religious and contemplative traditions as history and literature. We never promote or disparage any belief.
- People first. Every unit is built on real lives and primary sources, so students meet traditions the way they actually happened.
- Standards first. Every title is aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and the educator standards in 19 TAC Chapter 149 before it ships.
- Complete. Answer keys, teacher notes, timing, and adaptations for every learner come with the materials.
Our history
Our professional development course, The Aware Educator, began at The Awareness & Compassion Project in Austin, which was approved by the Texas Education Agency as a CPE provider in October 2023 (Provider No. 903-069). The course was delivered to schools in Austin and New York, and its student companion, Mind Muscle, was adopted by classroom teachers across grade levels. In 2024 the program was an awarded vendor for Katy ISD districtwide staff development.
Today the course is published by Mind Heart Lens LLC and has grown from a short workshop into a sixteen-session cohort with a Participant Workbook, a Facilitator Guide, and Mind Muscle for grades 3–5.
Who’s behind it
The Aware Educator and Mind Muscle were designed by Bob Peck, owner of Mind Heart Lens LLC. Bob holds a B.A. in Religious Studies and a B.S. in Radio-Television-Film from The University of Texas at Austin, is a certified mindfulness teacher, and designed and delivered the 2023 TEA-approved version of the course.
